Work Experience In Action

Purpose: This form collects initial information from students seeking work experience and records school readiness approval before official work experience documentation is progressed. Work experience is an opportunity to explore future pathways, develop workplace skills and represent the College positively in the wider community. Approval is based on student readiness, attendance, behaviour, curriculum engagement and suitability of the proposed placement. This form does not replace official BCE/DoE work experience agreement forms, risk assessment requirements or Activ8 Pathways documentation.

St Eugene College student Marcus made an outstanding impression during his work experience placement with Nova Ford.

Brad Jones from Nova Ford spoke highly of Marcus’s performance, praising his positive attitude, teamwork and the professional way he conducted himself in the workplace.

Marcus made such a strong impression that Nova Ford has invited him back for further work experience in Term 4 and is now exploring a School-Bases Apprenticeship for him early next year.

Student Spotlight

Congratulations to Alexus, who has been selected to become a full educator in the toddler room at her childcare traineeship placement. An incredible achievement at just 15, while still completing school and her traineeship.

Her centre has recognised the care, kindness and enthusiasm she brings each day, presenting her with a letter recognising how far she’s come and how valued she is within the team.

A wonderful example of finding something you love, growing in confidence and being trusted with real responsibility.
Looking Ahead

We are excited to announce that Year 9 Work Experience Week will take place in Term 4, Week 10. 

A chance for students to take their first steps into the world of work, explore career interests and start building the skills and confidence that will support them beyond school.

Career education is embedded from Prep to Year 12. Students progressively build self-awareness, explore opportunities and develop the skills required for future pathways through age‑appropriate learning experiences connected to real‑world contexts.

Year 10 Career Education

In Year 10, all students undertake a specialised Career Education course, a key transition point within our P–12 pathway model. The course supports students to:

 

  • Identify strengths, interests and personal goals

  • Explore academic, vocational and applied senior pathways

  • Make informed subject selections aligned with QCAA senior schooling options

  • Develop planning, decision-making and career management skills

 

This course ensures students enter senior schooling with clarity, confidence and purpose. As part of the program, students also complete a QCAA Short Course in Career Education, gaining a recognised qualification that supports pathway planning and senior subject selection. The course also supports students with university aspirations, including awareness of early offer and Head Start programs, and participation in targeted career, tertiary and transition workshops that build readiness for further study.

St Eugene College provides structured work experience opportunities that support authentic learning and community engagement. Through work experience, students:

 

  • Participate in real workplace environments

  • Develop employability and communication skills

  • Explore industries and career interests

  • Build confidence, responsibility and local industry connections

 

Work experience plays a vital role in shaping informed and realistic pathway decisions.

Students may undertake School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs) while completing their senior studies. These QCAA‑recognised pathways enable students to:

 

  • Combine school, training and paid employment

  • Work towards nationally recognised qualifications

  • Gain valuable industry experience

  • Transition smoothly into employment or further training after school

St Eugene College supports access to external trade and training courses through partnerships with registered training organisations and industry providers. These pathways are aligned with BCE and QCAA requirements and support students pursuing applied and vocational learning options beyond the classroom.
